How to Resolve Network Connection Failure on Your EV Charger
Share
A stable network connection is essential for many modern electric vehicle chargers. It allows features such as remote monitoring, smart scheduling, firmware updates, and user authentication. However, like any connected device, EV chargers can sometimes experience network connection failures.
If your EV charger is showing offline status or failing to connect to your Wi-Fi network, don’t worry. In most cases, the issue can be resolved with a few simple steps. Below is a step-by-step guide to help you get your charger back online.
Step 1: Check the Wi-Fi Status Indicator
The first thing you should do is observe the device’s Wi-Fi status indicator. Most EV chargers are equipped with an LED light or a small display that shows the current network status.
- If the indicator shows a solid or blinking Wi-Fi icon, the charger is attempting to connect or is already connected.
- If the indicator is off or shows an error, the charger may be out of range or experiencing a connection issue.
Make sure the charger is within the signal range of your Wi-Fi router. Thick walls, metal enclosures, or long distances can weaken the signal. If possible, move the router closer to the charger or use a Wi-Fi range extender to improve coverage.
Step 2: Disconnect and Reconnect the Charging Connector, or Restart the Device
Sometimes a simple reset can fix temporary network glitches. Try the following:
- Disconnect the charging connector from your vehicle if it is currently plugged in, wait a few seconds, and then reconnect it.
- Restart the EV charger by turning off its power supply (usually via a dedicated circuit breaker), waiting for about 30 seconds, and then turning it back on.
After the device restarts, give it a minute or two to reconnect to the network. Check the Wi-Fi status indicator again to see if the connection has been restored.
Step 3: Contact Customer Service for Further Assistance
If you have tried restarting the device multiple times and the network environment is confirmed to be normal (for example, other devices can connect to the same Wi-Fi without issues), but the charger still cannot connect, it may indicate a deeper device or network configuration problem.
In this case, contact the manufacturer’s customer service team. Provide them with the following information to speed up troubleshooting:
- Your charger model and serial number
- A description of the issue and the steps you have already tried
- The status of the Wi-Fi indicator light
- Your router model and network settings (if available)
Customer service can guide you through advanced troubleshooting or arrange a repair or replacement if needed.
